The CompanyMoldova AirLine has always been the mainstay of Moldovan Civil Aviation. Its global view and outlook, together with a consistent search for improvement, has given a steady and positive result. On the 19th of September 2004, Moldovan Civil Aviation will celebrate its 60th anniversary. During the post war years, its fleet of 17 aircraft consisted of 15 PO-2 and 2 LI-2's. It started its operation with non scheduled services, but on the 01st of July 1945, it began its first regular flights to Moscow, which at that time was part of the U.S.S.R. In its first year of operation, regular flights were started to five regions in the republic, namely Tiraspol, Balts, Soroco, Lipcani and Orgeev. After almost 20 years, the first TU-134, AN-24 and cargo AN-26's arrived at Chisinau airport. This gave the opportunity for Moldovan aviation to expand its services to the major cities in the U.S.S.R, offering comfort and increased safety to the travelling public. Numbers of passengers, and the volume of cargo, increased considerably, and together with the opening of a new air terminal on the 12th of October 1974, inaugurated a new era of Moldovan civil aviation. During the period of the Soviet Union, air transportation within the U.S.S.R., including Moldovan civil aviation, was carried out by Aeroflot. After the break up of the Soviet Union, all the ex republics declared their independence, and henceforth Aeroflot was distributed evenly between them. Subsequently, the newly formed independent republic of Moldova created, on the 12th of January 1993, Moldova AirLine, its first national airline. From the very beginning the newly formed Moldova AirLine modernised its work practices and increased its international standing in the aviation industry. Unfortunately in 1998 an economic crisis within the former soviet republics severely dampened the expansion of air transportation in Moldova. Moldova AirLine now has 11 direct flights to Moscow, Rome, Vienna, Amsterdam, Paris, Lisbon, Athens, Istanbul, Prague, Bucharest, and Larnaca. Due to improved scheduling, and agreements with the most important international airlines, we are now able to offer connections to all major airports in the world. Moldova AirLine is a member of the IATA Clearing House Bank, and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Company FleetThe present company fleet consists of Western and Soviet built aircraft, which are either owned by the company, or leased from international airline manufacturers. They all undergo a strictly controlled maintenance schedule according to either Eads Sogerma Services (Bordeaux-Merifnac, France), Nantes Aero (France), the Minsk Aircraft Repair Factory (Minsk), republic of Byelorussia, standards. The present Moldova AirLine fleet consists of two Airbus A320's and two Embraer 120's. |
